Corinna's husband Richard (Rick) Roberts, age 49, suffered a fatal heart attack on May 14, 2009. He has left behind his wife Corinna as well as 4 children: Brett, Patrick, Caitlyn, and Shannan.

My in-laws just returned from vacation. We all know that vacations breed tons of photos. As I was jealously looking through their photos, I noticed the cute towel animals. I always see these when we go on vacation and say I am going to find out how to make them... I always forget. Now, with no unpacking to do from that vacation.. hehe... I thought to look up instructions. My daughter is just delighted with my new found talent. My son, who isn't home right now, has a surprise waiting on the bathroom counter. It is time to get rid of this baby fat!

After my 2nd child, I hit the South Beach diet pretty hard. I lost the weight from baby number 2, baby number 1, AND those few pounds I had gained after the wedding... a whopping 70 lb. difference! Of course, as soon as I lost it all, I found out surprise number 3 was on his way!

Now that he is here, it is time to get rid of all the fat clothes again!

Mandy, a friend from Boutique Wild Child, started a "What's for dinner?" Mr. Linky. I thought this might give me a chance to share some of my favorite Southbeach Diet Recipes.

This is one of my favorites. It is super easy too ;)

Chicken Capri

Phase 1

Ingredients

1 cup ricotta, skim
1/2 tsp ground oregano
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
4 breasts, bone and skin removed chicken breasts
1/2 tsp garlic powder
2 tbsps virgin olive oil
1 cup chopped or sliced tomatoes
4 slices mozzarella cheese

Directions

In a blender or food processor, combine the ricotta with the oregano, salt, and pepper. Process to blend. Set aside.

Rub the chicken with the garlic powder. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook for 12 minutes per side. Place the chicken breasts, side by side, in a large baking dish and allow to cool.

Preheat the oven to 350° F (180° C).

Spoon 1/4 cup of the cheese mixture and 1/4 cup tomatoes onto each chicken breast. Top each chicken breast with 1 slice mozzarella.

Bake for 20 minutes, or until a thermometer inserted in the thickest portion of a breast registers 170° F (75° C) and the juices run clear.

I have found the coolest tool. It is called KickApps. KickApps allows you to make your own Widgets / Gadgets. It is totally FREE too!

You have to create a free KickApps community account to gain access to App Studio Widget Creator. It is confusing at first, but after you play around for a few minutes, you'll figure it out!

New Spring Design

This great design is perfect for that Easter Egg Hunt. The bottom skirt has a pleated ruffle at the bottom. The bow is pinned and removable. All seams are professionally serged and top-stitched where applicable. This dress is fully lined and could be worn with a white shirt underneath it for cooler weather. I will be listing this dress on ebay just as soon as Mason decides she will model it for me :D

Just what is the CPSIA gonna do?

There are two videos out now. They are quite lengthy, but essentially, manufactures were there to present evidence that would allow their products to be excluded from the CPSIA.

The basics:

1. We are considered crafters, not manufacturers (Boutique sewers, bow makers, etc.).

2. JCPenny & TCP both submitted Evidence that fabrics do not contain lead.

3.Buttons, zippers, snaps, screen prints, grommets, do sometimes contain lead. 2 zippers from the same lot can have different test results.

4. Coats & Clark submitted evidence that even the thread with the most lead in it is insignificant.

5. National Cotton Council says cotton has 0 lead.

6. TCP showed that elastic has no lead.

7. Puff paint currently has 600ppm. Manufacturers are trying to lower this amount now.

8. Supply chain testing was recommended for small manufacturers and crafters. - this means

components are tested only once and the certificates are passed down.

9. There may be a stay issued on the feb. 10th deadline.

My Opinion

I think they will end up excluding all fabric, however if the garment or bow has anything hard on it, the whole item will have to be tested (zippers, buttons, barrettes). Hopefully they will implement chain testing. If I understand correctly, this means you can use the component in your final product if you know it was tested further up the chain.

Something to ponder....

Think about a pair of jeans.... Zipper, button, snaps, & rivets! All of those items fail... Soooo, I guess every kid in America is gonna be wearing sweats & elastic waistbands ???

If someone you know volunteers at a thrift store or crochets baby hats for the crafts site Etsy or favors handmade wooden toys as a baby shower gift, you've probably been hearing the alarms about the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA).

Hailed almost universally on its passage last year--it passed the Senate 89 to three and the House by 424 to one, with Ron Paul the lone dissenter--CPSIA is now shaping up as a calamity for businesses and an epic failure of regulation, threatening to wipe out tens of thousands of small makers of children's items from coast to coast, and taking a particular toll on the handcrafted and creative, the small-production-run and sideline at-home business, not to mention struggling retailers. How could this have happened?

CPSC Clarifies Requirements of New Children’s Product Safety Laws Taking Effect in FebruaryGuidance Intended for Resellers of Children’s Products, Thrift and Consignment Stores

WASHINGTON, D.C. - In February 2009, new requirements of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) take effect. Manufacturers, importers and retailers are expected to comply with the new Congressionally-mandated laws. Beginning February 10, 2009, children’s products cannot be sold if they contain more than 600 parts per million (ppm) total lead. Certain children’s products manufactured on or after February 10, 2009 cannot be sold if they contain more than 0.1% of certain specific phthalates or if they fail to meet new mandatory standards for toys.
Under the new law, children’s products with more than 600 ppm total lead cannot lawfully be sold in the United States on or after February 10, 2009, even if they were manufactured before that date. The total lead limit drops to 300 ppm on August 14, 2009.
The new law requires that domestic manufacturers and importers certify that children’s products made after February 10 meet all the new safety standards and the lead ban. Sellers of used children’s products, such as thrift stores and consignment stores, are not required to certify that those products meet the new lead limits, phthalates standard or new toy standards.
The new safety law does not require resellers to test children’s products in inventory for compliance with the lead limit before they are sold. However, resellers cannot sell children’s products that exceed the lead limit and therefore should avoid products that are likely to have lead content, unless they have testing or other information to indicate the products being sold have less than the new limit. Those resellers that do sell products in violation of the new limits could face civil and/or criminal penalties.
When the CPSIA was signed into law on August 14, 2008, it became unlawful to sell recalled products. All resellers should check the CPSC Web site (www.cpsc.gov) for information on recalled products before taking into inventory or selling a product. The selling of recalled products also could carry civil and/or criminal penalties.
While CPSC expects every company to comply fully with the new laws resellers should pay special attention to certain product categories. Among these are recalled children’s products, particularly cribs and play yards; children’s products that may contain lead, such as children’s jewelry and painted wooden or metal toys; flimsily made toys that are easily breakable into small parts; toys that lack the required age warnings; and dolls and stuffed toys that have buttons, eyes, noses or other small parts that are not securely fastened and could present a choking hazard for young children.
The agency has underway a number of rulemaking proposals intended to provide guidance on the new lead limit requirements. Please visit the CPSC website at www.cpsc.gov for more information.

Some of you may have heard about new legislation created to protect children from products that contain lead and other chemicals. Currently there is a ton of confusion swirling about this. This law may potentially shut down all resale shops, boutique clothing designers, jewelry, toy, & bow makers, to name a few. Rumor has it there will be a press release either today or tomorrow that will stop some of the confusion. Below is an article that helps explain some of the current situation. As if the economy isn't bad enough.......

Verity Freebern, owner of Grow, packs up clothes at her store in anticipation of closing because of a law going into effect Feb. 10 that will require nearly all sellers of children's products to verify that their wares have been tested for high levels of lead.
Local businesses that make and sell children's products — from baby-blanket makers to thrift shops — are wailing that a new federal law devised to target toys laden with lead might unintentionally force them to close.
The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, signed in August and effective Feb. 10, requires any maker or retailer of an item designed for children younger than 12 to conform with strict limits on lead and other harmful substances.
The law was Congress' way of slamming the door on the runaway recalls of more than 45 million products — 8 million of them toys — in the past several years, most of them from China, that contained unsafe levels of lead and other hazards. Ambiguities in the law have
small-business owners worried that the costly tests will force them out of business.
"If the law isn't interpreted differently, I'm going to have to close, and I already don't make a lot, and for this to be added to my costs is unbearable," said Olivia Omega Logan, 29, whose home- based business, Baby Candy Store, makes a line of organic T-shirts.
Though her products are made from undyed, unbleached cotton and use a screening process that's lead-free, "I still will have to test them all," she said.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission, which enforces the law, voted Tuesday to exclude from the requirements all clothing, toys and other goods made of unaltered natural materials such as cotton and wood. But printing or embellishing the items would make tests necessary.
Logan is leading an effort to pool area businesses into a voice that can be heard in Washington, D.C. They plan their first meeting today at Ambajam Children's Clothing in Denver.
All items marketed for use by children must be tested and certified as meeting strict lead limits. And if a retailer doesn't have the manufacturer's certification, it's required to test and certify the item itself. So thrift stores, in theory, must test every child-specific item on their shelves.
The law's effective date has been dubbed by some small businesses as National Bankruptcy Day because of the high costs they face in meeting the CPSIA requirements.
Though independent lab testing of items isn't required until August, alternative tests that can be used until then can still cost hundreds or thousands of dollars, affected business owners say.
"It's tough having a manufacturing business since we're competing with those who are making such giant quantities overseas," said Verity Freebern, whose Denver-based business, Grow, makes and sells, among other things, children's clothing.
"I can't even fathom the cost and just won't make any more clothes (and will) sell off what I have and move on," she said.
For now, any children's item not certified by Feb. 10 — no matter how long ago it was made — cannot be sold legally. However, John Moss, a Chicago lawyer who counsels clients on CPSC issues, said it's unlikely that small retailers such as thrift shops will be targeted for enforcement.
Without clarity, though, no one can know for sure.

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree....

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!

Dustin spent every possible moment shaking boxes, reading name tags, and trying to figure out who had the most presents under the tree.

I have waited and waited for him to learn to read and I spent the week wishing he couldn't ;)

This was Riley's first Christmas. I had a hard time figuring out what to buy a 6 week old baby for Christmas. Santa brought him a diaper pail. He also received some chew toys and other baby necessities!

Mason would only open one present at a time. It took her a couple hours to open all her presents. She would open and play with that one toy until we talked her into opening another. She was too funny!

Dustin tore through the wrapping paper like a tornado. He removed all those goofy ties, wraps, screws, and everything else they use to secure toys in the boxes by himself. He received a V-Flash video game system and before we knew it, he was in his room and had hooked it all up. He is definately my son ;)

Yesterday we visited the "Mermaid Show" at Weeki Wachee State Park. The Mermaids have been performing since 1947.

I went to see the show when I was a child and I have wanted to return to see it again ever since we moved to Florida. Mason thought it was the greatest and now says she wants to be a Mermaid when she grows up.

I just couldn't resist sharing how skinny this little guy is. He is so snuggly & sweet. He slept all night last night for the 2nd time :D

I know that last picture is a bit fuzzy, but it is so sweet, I had to post it!

Christmas Photo Collage

After dreading the thought of getting all 3 children clean, dressed, and smiling for photos, I opted to design a photo collage instead. I used digital scrapbooking sets to create the layout and just added photos taken this year. I edited everything in Microsoft Digital Image. I really LOVE that program :D

Riley Jordan - 6 lbs, 15 oz - Nov. 8, 2008

Our New arrival has finally made it. He was early as expected. I had my cerclage removed at noon on Friday and Riley Jordan was born at 3:34 a.m. after only 2 hours & 15 minutes of labor. The epidural didn't even have time to take effect... lol! Dustin & Mason are so intrigued by Riley. All they want to do is hold him :D

So I spent the whole day docorating my blog! How do you like it? The images are all created from the great scrapbooking digital sets :D I had a blast creating the images however I am now bald from figuring out how to edit xml. Let's just say I will not be creating and selling blog templates.... LOL!

Free Blog Backgrounds

Instructions for using Backgrounds:
1. Copy the code for your background

2. Log into Blogger / Blogspot

3. You are now in your Dashboard.

4. Click the Layout tab.

5. Click the Pick New Template tab and select Minima.

6. Click the Page Elements tab.

7. Click Add New Gadget.

8. choose the HTML/Java Script Gadget.

9. Paste the code into the pop up box.

10. Click Save to close the pop up box.

11. Click Save to save the Layout.

12. Your done! You can now view your Blog.
